When most people think of orthodontics, they think of metal braces, painful wire bending, food getting stuck in the braces, embarrassment, and long treatment duration. Metal braces are no longer the only treatment option. Invisalign is an excellent alternative to traditional orthodontics. Invisalign is a serene of clear plastic aligners fabricated with a computerized technology that moves teeth predictably, faster, and discretely. Of course, not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign, so the treatment starts with an examination and consultation. Treatment plan options will be presented. If we determine that you are a candidate for Invisalign, the next steps are to take some molds of the teeth, pictures of the teeth before treatment, an X-ray of the teeth, and bite registration that established the bite relationship between top and bottom teeth before treatment begins. 3 weeks later, tooth colored tiny attachments are bonded to the teeth that aid in tooth movement, certain teeth may need to be slightly shaped to create room for movement, and the first tray is dispensed. Trays are dispensed every 2 weeks thereafter and the appointments take 5-15 minutes. Most cases are completed in 12-18 months.
